American singer and songwriter Erykah Badu has announced a tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of her critically acclaimed project Mama’s Gun. The tour, Mama’s Gun ’25: The Return of Automatic Slim, will kick off on Oct. 3 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and include stops in Las Vegas, Boston, Detroit, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, Brooklyn and Nashville before ending on Dec. 10 with a show at the Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory in Dallas, which is Badu’s hometown.
Mama’s Gun, released in November 2000, marked her second studio album, following her debut album, Baduizm. The album includes hit singles like “Didn’t Cha Know?,” as well as “Cleva” “… & On,” “Booty,” and “Bag Lady,” which got Badu nominated for Best R&B Song and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance at the 2001 Grammy Awards.
Before the Mama’s Gun anniversary shows, Badu will go on tour with the Alchemist, with whom she recently released “Next to You.” Those concerts will be held across North America from August 8-24. On tour, they plan to debut their new collaborative album, Abi & Alan, this is Badu’s first project since 2015's *But You Caint Use My Phone* mixtape. The collaborative project will be released on August 29.
Speaking about the joint tour in a press release, Badu said, "I'm excited to be able to share the music live first. I've always been a performer at heart, and this time, I get to present the work in the manner I love most."
Tickets for the 16-date Mama’s Gun tour will go on sale via a Live Nation pre-sale for select dates beginning on Wednesday (July 30). A public on-sale will follow on Friday (Aug. 1). The tickets to the Mama’s Gun tour and the joint tour with the Alchemist can be found here.
