English actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has been announced as one of the lead actors, alongside Richard Madden, in Netflix’s upcoming thriller series Trinity. Jed Mercurio will serve as the series’ executive producer, writer, and showrunner, while Michael Cuesta will direct and executive produce the first two episodes. Jimmy Mulville and Wendy Mericle are also on board as executive producers.
The official logline of the series reads: “A heroic Naval officer (Mbatha-Raw) becomes involved with the outwardly charismatic Secretary of Defense (Madden), only to discover he may be at the heart of a dangerous conspiracy.” Mbatha-Raw’s character, Commander Katherine Decker, is described as “the second-in-command on the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine and one of the deadliest weapons on Earth.” Madden will star as Webb Preston, a brilliant Secretary of Defense whose innovative ideas are seen as a threat by others.
Mbatha-Raw, known for starring in films and series like Netflix’s Lift, the ongoing Apple TV+ series Surface, Disney+’s Loki, Black Mirror, A Wrinkle in Time, The Morning Show, The Girl Before, and many others, is expected to deliver her typically captivating performance in Trinity, hopefully making it another Netflix hit.
She will also appear in the upcoming British crime thriller Fuze, alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, and Sam Worthington, as well as in the film adaptation of Ruth Ware’s novel The Woman in Cabin 10, alongside Keira Knightley, David Ajala, Art Malik, and Guy Pearce.
Currently, the release date and full cast list for Trinity have not yet been announced.
