Nigerian celebrity chef sets world record with the largest pot of Jollof Rice
Nigerian chef Hilda Baci has made history again, officially setting a new Guinness World Record for the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an extraordinary 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz).
The record-breaking feat was confirmed on September 14, 2025, at Eko Hotels & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, where thousands gathered to witness the event organized in partnership with Gino Nigeria.
According to Guinness World Records, Baci and her team cooked continuously for nine hours, using a specially built pot to prepare the massive dish. At least 4,000 kg of basmati rice was required to make up 80% of the final weight, alongside hundreds of kilograms of her signature pepper mix, meats, and other ingredients.
In keeping with Guinness rules, the food was served to attendees to prevent waste, with over 16,000 plates of steaming jollof rice distributed to the crowd.
Baci, who rose to global fame in 2023 after setting the record for the longest cooking marathon (93 hours, 11 minutes), described her latest success as “a win for Nigeria, for our food, and for our culture.”
With this achievement, she not only cements her place in culinary history but also shines an international spotlight on Nigerian cuisine, reaffirming jollof rice as one of West Africa’s most iconic dishes.
