Award-winning filmmaker Tyler Perry is set to release a new series on Netflix titled She the People. The 16-episode first season will premiere in two batches. Part 1 will debut on May 22, with Part 2 premiering on August 14, 2025. The comedy series tells the story of Antoinette Dunkerson, played by Terri Vaughn, a politician who wins an election but realizes that the job comes with many challenges. As she navigates the murky waters of politics, she tries to keep her family together while dealing with a new love interest. Other actors in the series include Jo Marie Payton, Jade Novah, Drew Olivia Tillman, Tre Boyd, Basil Anderson, Robert Craighead, Kevin Thoms, and Dyon Brooks.

The launch of this upcoming series marks Perry’s second release under his multi-year creative partnership with Netflix, which will see him write, produce, and direct series, films, and faith-based features. She the People follows the release of The Six Triple Eight and Beauty in Black, which became his most-viewed film on Netflix and the number one series on the Global Top 10 TV List (English), respectively. The upcoming series was co-created by Niya Palmer, while its producers include Amgi Bones, Palmer, Tony L. Strickland, Vaughn, and Keisha Lance Bottoms. Other projects to expect from Perry’s partnership with Netflix include Madea’s Destination Wedding—a feature film that follows 2022’s A Madea Homecoming, both part of the Madea franchise—a drama feature Straw starring Taraji P. Henson, and the faith-based film R&B.

Following the announcement of his future projects, he also introduced the Dream Collective, a program created to help empower the next generation of filmmakers from marginalised communities. She the People represents Perry’s return to comedic projects, years after making films heavily centred on drama — all of which have received negative reviews. Hopefully, his new series will mark a promising return to the kind of work that once defined his earlier success.
