Ugo Mozie has a talent for turning icons into style statements, and it wasn’t surprising when he styled the legend Jacki Chan for Haute Magazine. Chan looked sharp in a Fendi sweater, sleek pants from Mozie’s own Eleven Sixteen label, 313 Eko sneakers, Oliver Peoples shades, and an Emmanuele Bicocchi ring to tie it all together. Amongst the other amazing outfits, Chan’s boundless energy met Mozie’s refined eye, and the result was a cover that felt both effortless and utterly unforgettable.

Just in case you have not been introduced to the greatness that is Ugo Mozie, here’s a little backstory. Mozie grew up in Enugu, Nigeria, where he was fascinated by the bold colours and patterns of local textiles. He moved to New York determined to learn every side of fashion, from assisting Vivienne Westwood to styling runway shows and red carpets. Along the way he built a reputation for incorporating cultural storytelling into every look, earning clients like Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and Travis Scott.

He further channeled that vision into his own label, Eleven Sixteen, which he launched in April. Eleven Sixteen fuses traditional African fabrics with crisp, modern lines, inviting anyone to wear heritage as everyday luxury. The Jackie Chan shoot is so significant as he showcased his brand’s trousers on a global superstar, proving Eleven Sixteen could stand toe-to-toe with legacy names while staying true to its roots.

Worthy to note also, at this year’s Met Gala, he co-designed Diana Ross’s white gown with an 18-foot feathered train embroidered with the names of her children and grandchildren. On the same red carpet he styled Evan Ross, Khaby Lame in a grey three-piece suit with vintage pocket watches, James Corden in a custom tuxedo, and Chef Kwame Onwuachi in an all-black Eleven Sixteen look accented with Nigerian gemstones.

Mozie’s work hasn’t gone unnoticed by the industry. In 2016 he was nominated for the “Crossing Borders with Fashion” award at the Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards, a nod to how his designs bridge continents and cultures. Today, he’s quietly shaping how we think about Black and African style, one tailored look at a time.

Great style tells a story and Ugo Mozie is writing some of the most exciting chapters in fashion right now.
